In 2 days I will showcase a few of my artworks at the Wine & Canvas event in Brussels organized by Serendip spa.
On one hand, preparations have kept me busy which is good both physically and mentally. On the other, I have been appreciating a lot the awesome support coming from friends and trustworthy connections I have in Brussels and abroad. These people are for me a second family.
Wine & Canvas, as a series of cultural events, has the aim of promoting local emerging artists and supports Art in all its forms.
I am proud of having the honor of opening the first session and welcoming friends and visitors with my Art.
The selected pieces showcased on Friday are the reflection of me, Beddru, as an artist but also as a human being. They embrace themes very dear to me such as the importance of our past in our present time.
Artworks such as "Sleeping memories" show the influence of the Hellenistic culture in my paintings. Others, such as "Mythic Love" the exposure to popular stories and myths in the years spent in Agrigento. Religion is also a recurrent theme which materializes either as a fictive representation (Saint Sebastian) or in the dualism with profane adventures like in the "Sinner".
Some other works, show an elegant homo-erotic message ("The Bathers", "Flirt") which is part of my artistic investigation on human nature.
Space is also granted to the female world and the genuine approach in Life visible in "The Dream" where the sense of pleasure of being lost in Love caches the eye of the observer.
Travels have brought ideas but also a careful observation of people around me ("People") who eventually become the actors of some of my artworks.
To end, the theme of "domesticity" is also represented as the only realm left where we can all be ourselves with no whatsoever judgement coming from others. A touch of voyeurism was necessary in artworks such as "Man in the mirror" to bring the eye of the observer into a private scene.
Looking forward to seeing you on Friday.
